Wool Shorts Remix No. 1

Am I allowed to call this a remix if all I did was change my shirt? ... It's a rhetorical question, really. No matter what you're saying I'm saying yes ;)

These shorts are my new fave. Meaning I will be wearing them all summer long. They're giving the best dress ever a run for it's money, to be sure.

015

016

Most recently these shorts were worn on Monday, when the moon and the stars and everything in the universe lined up exactly perfectly, and hubby and I were both off work. At the same time. On the same day! Incredible.

So we took a lovely little drive up the road from our house about 30 minutes and went to Saguaro lake. It was super busy because of the holiday (obvs) but we had lots of fun. We had lunch on the patio at a restaurant there, walked around for a bit, quickly decided we were so done with the heat, and headed back towards home, stopping at a friends for a quick visit and a drink first. What a fun day!

018
(Hubby had the right idea with those glasses. It was so bright!)

Another thing I'll be doing all summer long? (Besides wearing these shorts, that is) Wearing my hair up. I've been back and forth about whether to cut it short for summer but in the end decided that it's taken me WAY too long to grow it out, and I will probably want it long whenever winter rolls around again. So that's it. While it's summer, while it's hot, it will most likely always be up.

I'm sure many of you are now saying "what's all this talk of summer! It's still spring!" ... No, my friends, it is not. It's summer. In fact, we skipped spring all together. Spring does not exist in my world. Or fall for that matter. Winter and summer. That is it.

Other than this one little signal of spring, that is. The cactuses (cacti?) are in bloom!

Hope you're all enjoying the start of your week, darlings!

Sighn Farms

You'd think from this title that there will be pictures with a farm to follow, right? ... Um, yeah... about that...

016

This past weekend my sister, mom, and I got together to go to a place here in Phoenix called Sighn Farms. We were hoping to buy flats of tomatoes to try our hand at canning, but it turns out this farm doesn't sell produce quite on that scale. It's more of a garden, really. They did have some delicious looking fresh produce, jams, herbs, and jars of spice blends though. This is what I wore for our lovely little outing.

018

(Shorts, shirt, and lace vest came from Name Brand Exchange, the shoes came from Payless.
Excluding jewelry, this whole outfit was under $40!)

008

When I put this outfit together for the event, I had an image in mind of roaming through rows of garden plants, snapping a picture here and there. This outfit was seriously perfect for the day. The weather was hot, but not too hot. I was super comfortable in these wool shorts and the whole thing fit the setting perfectly. Things don't always go quite as planned, though...

022

Among all the delicious looking things previously mentioned were some samples of dips and a really fresh looking salad. I didn't notice when looking at the samples, but it turns out one that I tasted had cashews in it. I'm allergic to cashews. So there ya go.

Instead of taking pictures I took Benadryl. And a very long nap. Bummer.

I still had a really nice day with my sis and mama though. I can't wait to go back sometime and skip the whole allergic reaction thing. How 'bout I take pictures that day instead? Sound like a deal, my friends?

Why yes, I think that's a deal :)

Best Dress EVER

I seriously think this might be my favorite dress I've ever owned to date. Actually, I'm surprised I haven't shared it yet because I've worn it a TON of times before, in lots of different ways. Most recently, I wore it out to dinner with the hubby. I wasn't really planning on taking outfit photos, but I thought I'd just grab a few quick shots since I haven't posted an outfit on my blog in a while.

031

So why is this dress the best, you ask? Well, it's a tank on top making it perfect for hot weather. It's elastic at the waist, making it SUPER comfortable. And, it has pockets. Yes. Love. ... AND... It only cost me two dollars! Which makes for some serious love.

dress: Name Brand Exchange
shoes: Payless
belt: thrifted
tights: wal-mart
necklace: hand made by me

027

It's definitely warming up around here, but it's still a little chilly in the evening (like when I wore this) so I decided I should have at least a little something to cover my legs. This is a pair of footless tights I picked up in the winter. Honestly, the only reason I got them is because I was looking for this color and they were sold out of the regular-with-foot kind. I figured I'd just put on some socks and boots and you'd never know. But now that it's heating up I thought what the heck, let's try them with sandals.... hmmm.... not so sure about it. I think maybe it's weird because they are sheer. What do you think?

And on another note, wanna know why the hubby and I were going out to dinner? To celebrate the fact that he got a new job. Yay!!!!! He actually got offered this job a while ago. It's with a brokerage house working as a mortgage loan officer, which is a really great opportunity for him. He had to pass a federal licensing test though, which is pretty intense. Anyway, it took him a few times to pass it, but he finally passed!! So we went out to dinner to celebrate :)

He still has to pass three state licensing tests before he's totally cleared for this job, so we're not quite out of the woods on that one yet. But, one step closer! Plus it leaves three more opportunities for date night celebrations, which is super fun for me, of course :)

Hope everyone is have a fabulous Monday!

An Update

Well apparently I'm a cheater AND a liar. I really didn't mean for it to turn out that way, but.... I won't be finishing the 30 for 30. It just got so stinkin' hot right after that last post! And now all my 30 for 30 cloths are way out of season. So that's it. There ya go, the end of that fashion adventure.

Turns out I really didn't learn too much about my shopping habits or my wardrobe or how to shop my own closet in that time. However, I DID learn a whole heck of a lot about blogging as far as my blogging style and where I'm wanting to go with this blog. I mean, I still have tons to learn about that (obvs) but I just mean that I got a sense for what being committed to a fashion blog (or any blog) really means. I learned that blogging is fun, but it takes a lot of focus and patience too! I learned that I can't just willy-nilly post when I think about it or else I won't be posting at all. Which is actually fine, because who says I have to do anything in regards to this blog or anything else. Of course I don't. It's just that without a schedule or a plan I always have the best of intentions to post, and I want to, but it doesn't happen. (Yeah, the entire month of March has been a great example of that!) I learned that there are a ton of awesome blogs on the internet. So much so that I don't know how I would ever have the time to keep up with all of them! .... I learned that having a blog just about fashion is not enough to keep my hunger for a creative outlet fed.

So, I'm planning on revamping my blog a little. I've decided I'm going to start an etsy shop in order to sell some of my art, handmade jewelry, and handmade home decor items. I want to rework my blog a bit in order for it to stand as a supplement to that shop. This will most likely mean a re-name and re-design, as well as a new posting schedule that will include how-to and DIY projects for your home, as well as style and outfit posts. I want to go more in the direction of fashion/art/home decor (still on the cheap). I'm not entirely sure how to do that yet, but I've been working recently on some creative brainstorming. And I have a TON of projects going at the moment in order to get my etsy shop up and running.

I'm excited about this new project, but I'm nervous for it too. I'm finding myself going through a lot of ups and downs about it lately. One second I think it's a good idea and I have all these ideas for projects that I can't wait to get going, then the next I'm thinking that there's already so many great things on etsy, I could never compete with that, all my ideas are so amateur anyway.... blah blah blah. I suppose what it comes down to is that all of those things are true, but as long as I have fun doing it, and I try my hardest to make it a success for me, who gives a hoot about anything else. Right??? ... You don't have to agree. I know it's true. I just need to get my soul to believe it now! (You know what I mean?)

In the past I have pretty much only made things or created a painting to put in my own home (or on rare occasions as gifts for others) which sort of limits what I do a bit because I want it to fit within the particular style my home is decorated in at that moment. Husband would tell you that I change the decor a lot giving me plenty of opportunities to create new things (which is true), but I don't change the decor as often as I get new art ideas, or find myself being inspired by some color combination that would fit no where in my home. I think I have a lot of art projects in me that either go unmade or end up being stuffed behind the couch never to be seen by anyone. I figure this shop will at least get my creative juices flowing and maybe open up some new avenues for my hobbies. Lately the art I'm talking about is more on the crafty-art side. I've been really into paper and fabric. I have several ideas of things I can do right now, but I'm also wanting to branch out a bit. I'd love to learn a bit about paper making, and maybe work more on embroidery by hand. I've been painting occasionally for years. Every now and again I come up with something good. I have a few duds too, though. I'd love to develop that skill a little more.

So anyway, the shop isn't open yet, but I'm hoping to get it up this month. I want to have at least a few items to start. But I thought I'd throw this out there now so you know what I'm up to and where I've been, since clearly I haven't been here, blogging. I've been at the art supply store, and at the craft store, and in my office with paper and scissors.... and fabric and sewing machine... and canvas and paint.... making a mess! In the meantime (while I work all this out) I plan to still be posting, but definitely not every day. Just don't be startled when you start to see some changes around here. They's a commin'! ;)

And thanks for still reading, friends :)

Cheater cheater, pumpkin eater.

I have a confession to make. Hubby and I went out for drinks with some friends last night to celebrate a good friend's birthday. No, that's not the confession part. The confession part is that I wore an outfit that was outside of my 30 for 30... which officially makes me a cheater cheater pumpkin eater... This was partly due to the fact that I'm a little bored with my 30 for 30 items, but it was mostly due to the fact that the majority of my 3o for 30 items are currently dirty, giving me very little to work with. Yeah, I'm bad at laundry. And that's the pure and honest truth. (By the way, hubby bought me a pumpkin-pecan muffin at a bakery by our house the other day, and I thoroughly enjoyed it as a late night snack upon returning from the bar, which really makes me a cheater cheater pumpkin eater. It was delicious!)

Even still, in the spirit of honesty, I decided to go ahead and share the pictures of my outfit anyway. Plus I figured since I've worn this outfit on the blog before, in a slightly different way, it still fits within the topic of remixing :) (and it does contain some items from my 30 for 30)

007

Dress: thrifted
belt: thrifted
leggings: Fashion Bug
Boots and leg warmers: Payless
sweater: wal-mart

019

017

012

So in conclusion, although I do cheat, and I do eat pumpkin, you can definitely bet I am not giving up on this 30 for 30! Maybe just consider this a bit of an aside on remixing, huh? We'll return to your regularly scheduled programing tomorrow.

Stay tuned for the rest of my 30 for 30 remix, friends! No more cheating... you have the promise of a cheater on that one. Haha :)

Wake up little shirt, you're on!

Have you guys ever bought a piece of clothing that you thought you loved but found you never wore it... until a few years later you rediscover this love and it's better than it was the first time? I think that might be this shirt for me. (I think Kendi wrote about this a while back regarding a pair of boots she owns. Something about her past self having her future self's back. Hehe.)

Hubby always refers to this type of thing as a "sleeper." Apparently when there's a guy in a sports game that isn't expected to do well but magically pulls it together and carries the game/season that guy is called a sleeper.

So there ya go. This shirt is a sleeper. It's starting to wake up, though :)

032

shirt: Macy's on sale (a few years ago)
jeans: Ross
belt: thrifted
shoes: wal-mart

Actually, I should probably be giving the belt the credit here, rather than the shirt. I've never worn the shirt this way before with a belt. It's supposed to be buttoned up the front but it's a little too big for me that way so I decided to try wrapping it. I know it's a simple idea that I should not be impressed by, but I've never worn belts at my waist before until starting this blog. Sydney from the Daybook says a belted waist can make almost anything better. I agree, miss Sydney! I agree.

What do you guys think? Do you love a belted waist too? How about other wardrobe tricks that you love and always find yourself falling back on?

Wishin' I were Shoppin'

I'm trying hard to stick to this 30 for 30, even though I've fallen behind (most everyone else on this challenge finished yesterday! Eek!) I'm having fun with the cloths, but I'm sort of starting to feel the desire to shop! We have a sign in our hallway, in honor of hubby, that says "Wishin' I was Fishin'"... well I'm wishin' I was shoppin'. Even though it doesn't have the same ring to it ;)

054

I'm really lovin' this outfit, though. It's another one of those that I know I wouldn't have put together on my own if it weren't for the need to remix! I love that. It's been the most fun part of this whole thing (discovering new outfits, that is)

Unfortunately I might not be able to wear this newly discovered cute outfit very many more times before Summer starts to hit! (I know, it's only March, but summer comes early in Arizona!) 30 for 30 has been a little intense, but I may do a smaller version of this to try and get myself to come up with new combos for summer. Maybe like a 10 for 10? I could even pick items that I don't think would go together initially which would force me to try totally new combos. (Well, new for me, at least) Hmmm.... something to consider :)

I'll still be mourning the loss of layering though.... and boots.... layering and boots: my two loves of winter and fall! (Well, I guess three, after hubby. Because I love him in the winter and fall and all the time too.)

Outfit 15 is in the bag, darlings!
